BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU IN TOWN

The purpose of this amazing Camera Project as a community initiative is to insure the safety of Swellendam and for the protection of this beautiful town. We also want to protect our heritage.

The safety of our residents, tourists and visitors is important to us. It is thus with great gratitude that we can report that the first LPR Camera point was successfully installed on 6 May 2015 at the corner of Station & Somerset Road, close by the N2. The other PTZ Camera point was successfully installed at the Super Spar a few weeks earlier. The cameras are controlled from a central CCTV (closed circuit television surveillance site). Our long term goal is to establish 12 camera points at all the entrances and exits to the town. Railton and the industrial area will also benefit from this initiative.

The Swellie Watch, a community initiative has been established as a NPO and the Project is financed by the community and the cost per camera point amounts to approximately R20 000.00. The municipality, Eskom and SWD Connect (WiFi) assists with the installation of the infrastructure. The initiative was instigated by Automation Works in co-operation with the business sector, traffic department and the municipal management committee.

Swellie Watch is also involved in a similar initiative in Cape Town, Constantia, George and Worcester. This initiative will eventually be extended to towns in the Overberg. 134 Businesses in Swellendam are involved whom already have given their written support to the project.

An over view of the project has been given to organisations in Swellendam, such as SSK management, Hospitality in Swellendam, GWK, CAD, Swellendam tourism. The Swellendam mayor’s committee, police and all the security companies in town, traffic department, Aesthetic and Conservation commission, banks and agricultural societies.
